Protective Security is a process and a method intended to protect people, assets, and information from a wide range of threats or risks (ranging from vandalism or theft through to more serious incidents including terrorism). An effective Protective Security framework covers four areas.

1. Security Governance

2. Physical security

3. Personnel security

4. Information security

Implementing Protective Security involves undertaking a security risk assessment and creating a security plan and if necessary associated policies and procedures (governance) addressing requirements and controls for effective Physical, Personnel and Information security. The level of Security Governance needed will vary and be different and unique for every business or entity.

Protective Security Governance and controls should be regularly reviewed (annually or otherwise as required) to ensure effectiveness.
